Argentina's WC Hopes Hanging By A Thread

Argentina's 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification hopes were dealt a major blow after they were held to a goalless draw by Peru in Buenos Aires.
The result on Friday morning saw Jorge Sampaoli's men drop out of the qualification spots for next year's showpiece tournament.
Although the Argentines dominated most of the match, they were unable to find a way past fourth-placed Peru.
Sampaoli's side started the match with plenty of intent and purpose, but just could not find the back of the net on the night.
FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi pulled the strings throughout the match but struggled to break the deadlock on numerous occasions.
The 30-year-old's best chance came when he hit the crossbar early in the second half after he followed up on Dario Benedetto's effort, which was initially saved by the Peru goalkeeper.
Despite the 0-0 draw, one more round of qualifying fixtures remain, and Argentina will need to beat Ecuador in the thin air of Quito in the Andes if they are to have any hopes of boarding the plane to Russia.
The Argentines are currently in sixth place in the South American qualification group, with the top four teams advancing automatically. The fifth-placed team can advance by winning a playoff against New Zealand.

  1. Honestly, I don't want to watch Argentina play anymore. I can't take the fact that my favorite player is working his heart out and yet all he gets is shit from the media and his haters. He's expected to play as a center mid even though he's the greatest goalscorer ever and yet even when he makes 4-5 chances, his teammates can't make a simple finish in front of goal. But it's still Messi's FAULT. This man doesn't deserve this.
