Bucs’ Captaincy For ‘Bara’ After Manyisa Exit?

News reaching the Siya crew is that Abbubaker Mobara could be in line to become the next captain for Orlando Pirates for the new season. The Buccaneers’ captaincy duties have been the responsibility of Oupa Manyisa for over two seasons.
‘Ace’, as the central midfielder is known in football circles, has been Bucs’ captain since the 2014/15 season. The Mohlakeng-born player was appointed the team’s captain under former Pirates coach Vladimir Vermezovic in November 2014, following the passing away of Senzo Meyiwa, who had been their skipper.
However, last weekend’s Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs was the last game for Manyisa captaining Pirates, as it has since been confirmed that he is leaving the club.
As announced by Bucs chairman Irvin Khoza on Thursday afternoon, the 29-year-old is leaving the club for Mamelodi Sundowns.
Upon investigating, the Siya crew has been informed that Mobara has emerged as a possible candidate to take over the captaincy at Bucs for the new season.
In his first season with Bucs, the 23-year-old from Cape Town stood head-and-shoulders above the rest in the team with his impressive performances. The versatile player has become one of the influential players for the team.
Bara, as the former Ajax Cape Town player is otherwise known, recently walked away with the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament award from the PSL for his contribution in Bucs’ 2016/17 campaign.
