CR7 Beats Messi As World's Highest Paid Footballer Again

Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has once again beaten longstanding rival Lionel Messi to remain the highest paid footballer on Forbes' rich list for a fourth year running.
The Portuguese pocketed $93 million (R1.2 billion) in salary earnings, bonus payments and endorsement deals between June 2016 and May 2017, as announced by Forbes.
"For the fourth straight year, Real Madrid's Ronaldo is the world's highest paid soccer player. The $93 million he banked in the last year also bests the earnings of every active professional athlete worldwide," Forbes' Christina Settimi wrote.
Ronaldo made $58 million (R750 million) from his Los Blancossalary and bonus payments (before taxes), while the other $35 million (R452 million) of his earnings came from his various endorsement deals with Nike and Tag Heuer, among others, as well as his own underwear line and other business ventures.
Messi follows, with $80 million (R1.03 billion), in second place, pocketing $53 million (R685 million) in salary and bonus payments, with the other $27 million (R349 million) coming from endorsement deals with adidas and Gatorade, among others.
"Barcelona's record five-time global player of the year Lionel Messi pulled in $80 million in the past year to rank No. 2 on our list of soccer's highest paid. He has one year left on his playing contract that paid him $50 million in salary and bonus," Settimi explained.
