#PiratesFirstWin2017 Orlando Pirates recoded first win this year 2-0 victory against Maritzburg United

Orlando Pirates ended their winless streak in the league when they secured a 2-0 victory against Maritzburg United in their Absa Premiership encounter on Tuesday night.

The match got off to a lively start as both sides pressed early, with Thabo Matlaba forging the best chance of the opening 10 minutes with a blistering long-range shot, only for his team-mate to deflect the ball away from goal.

Pirates would eventually find the breakthrough after just 13 minutes as Oupa Manyisa’s whipped corner was met by the leaping Ayanda Gcaba, who powerfully headed the ball into the back of the net.

Kurt Lentjies provided Maboe with the perfect opportunity to draw level, but the forward took a touch-too-much and saw his effort being blocked by Happy Jele.

Substitue Dove Wome doubled his sides advantage in the 79th minute when a great passing move saw him slot the ball past the onrushing goalkeeper's legs.

Here's how they lined-up:

Pirates XI: 40. Mpontshane, 2. Gcaba, 4. Jele, 8. Matlaba, 21. Phungwayo, 20. Manyisa, 18. Sarr, 45. Mobara, 5. Makola, 29. Lorch, 7. Ndoro.

Maritzburg XI: 30. Vries, 16. Fransman, 5. Weidlich, 2. Onyango, 18. Saal, 28. Mekoa, 37. Ndlovu, 26. Shandu, 15. Maboe, 9. Fileccia, 19. Rusike.
