Vargas scored 4 as Chile Ease Into Copa Semis

Defending Champions, Chile, booked their Copa America semi-final spot, after thrashing Mexico 7-0 on Saturday night.

After a slow start, Edson Puch opened the scoring in the 16th minute. Eduardo Vargas did well force a save from Ochoa, who deflected the ball into Puch's path and the midfielder made no mistake from close range.

Chile doubled their lead just before the halftime break as Vargas turned home Alexis Sanchez's cross at the near post.
Alexis Sanchez then went from provider to scorer shortly after the halftime break, with a simple finish from close range, after some good work by Arturo Vidal.

Vargas extended Chile's advantage in the 52nd minute, as Sanchez got to the byline, before picking out the Hoffenheim forward, who fired a composed finish past Ochoa.

Vargas completed his hat-trick five minutes later to grab Chile's fifth goal. Sanchez and Jean Beausejour combined well, with the latter firing the ball across goal. Ochoa could only palm the ball into the path of the striker, who made no mistake from six-yards out.

Chile added their sixth goal in the 74th minute as Vargas collected a pass from Puch on the edge of the area, before slamming home from a tight angle for his fourth of the game.

Puch then rounded off the scoring for the defending champions in the 87th minute, as the midfielder lifted the ball over Ochoa from close range, after getting on the end of Vidal's through ball.

Chile's Copa America defence will continue when they meet Colombia in the semi-finals.
