Tinkler hoping Orlando Pirates will extend his contract

The former Bidvest Wits assistant coach is looking to extend his contract as the Pirates head coach heading into the 2016/17 season

Orlando Pirates head coach Eric Tinkler remains hopeful that he will stay in charge of the team despite all the rumours flying around about the club looking to replace him.

Several coaches including Giovanni Solinas, Chris O’Loughlin and the late Stephen Keshi have been linked with the Pirates coaching job in recent times.

However, Tinkler has stated that he is only focused on returning for pre-season training as Bucs head coach at the beginning of next month.

“I had a one-year contract with an option to sign for a further year. I’m still hoping to stay on. I enjoy my job at Pirates. It’s a great club and I still have unfinished business," Tinkler said onDaily Sun.

“So I am hoping Pirates exercise their option, as I want to stay, but it’s up to the management. It’s a case of wait and see. I’m sure the situation will be clarified one way or the other soon.

“I am currently on holiday and until I hear anything to the contrary, I will keep planning for pre-season. We report back for training on 4 July and hopefully I will be taking the first training session.”

Pirates will take on their rivals Kaizer Chiefs in the sixth edition of the Carling Black Label Cup at the FNB Stadium on the 30th of July 2016.
