Georgia Beat Uninspiring Spain

Spain were shocked 1-0 by Georgia in an international friendly clash in Madrid on Tuesday night.

La Roja took control of the encounter straight from the get-go and came close to scoring in the ninth minute, but Cesc Fabregas sent his shot wide from close range.

Spain came close again in the 22nd minute. Vazquez surged down the right wing and crossed towards the far post where Gerard Pique was in position to head it narrowly wide of the post.

The pressure on Georgia continued as Fabregas drove a shot at goalkeeper Revishvili who parried the ball towards Thiago. He curled a shot towards goal but could only find the left-hand post.

The breakthrough arrived five minutes before the break, but it was Georgia who hit the front. Jighauri tore through the Spanish defence before cutting the ball back from the byline for Tornike Okriashvili to stroke home from close range.

Spain enjoyed the lion's share of the possession after the interval, stroking the ball around from one side of the field to the other in search of an opening, but Georgia were resilient in defence.

The visitors defended deep and in numbers to maintain their fragile lead and clinch a an unlikely victory against La Roja.
