Ronaldo Certain To Equal Two More Messi Records

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi constantly battle each other for records, and the Portuguese is now certain to reach two of his rival's milestones.

The Argentine has been the best goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League five times – more than any other player in European Cup history.

Ronaldo shares second place with Bayern Munich legend Gerd Muller, with both having claimed four Champions League Golden Shoes.

Messi won the award in 2008/09 (nine goals), 2009/10 (eight goals), 2010/11 12 goals), 2011/12 (14 goals) and 2014/15 (10 goals), while the Real Madrid talisman lifted the trophy in 2007/08 (eight goals), 2012/13 (12 goals), 2013/14 (17 goals) and 2014/15 (10 goals).

The 28-year-old set up a new record when he won the award for four straight seasons in a row between 2008 and 2012, while sharing last season's award with Neymar and Ronaldo.

However, his Portuguese counterpart has already scored 16 goals in this season's Champions League, with the second best goalscorer of the competition, Robert Lewandowski, seven goals away and no longer in the tournament.

The 31-year-old will therefore win the Golden Shoe for a fourth consecutive year – having shared last season's accolade with Messi and Neymar – and take his overall tally to five.
