Real Madrid tried to bribe Granada players and officials to win La Liga

Former FC Barcelona president Joan Gaspart has slammed arch-rivals Real Madrid, believing that all they do is "harm football".

The furious 71-year-old has hit back at claims that the Catalan club has tried to bribe Granada players andofficials ahead of their crucial La Liga clash against the Blaugrana on Saturday, and suggested that the rumours may be coming from the Los Blancos camp.

"The only thing Real Madrid do is harm football," Gaspart told Spanish newspaper Ara.

"If I was a Granada player I'd be offended, because it insinuates that I could be bought, it's an indecent campaign.

"I believe in football and its honesty. If such things are discovered, though – through secure investigations – then the clubs involved will have to be punished."

The former Barcelona president was also asked about a scandal that took place in the 1990s, when Barca were accused of paying Tenerife €7 million after they beat Real on the final day of the season to hand the Catalan side the title for a second consecutive campaign.

"Whoever says that is a liar," he exclaimed.

"All Barcelona did was invite Tenerife to the Gamper (a pre-season tournament), not a euro was paid."

Real are currently one point off Barca in the race for the La Liga title, with one game left to play.
