Jomo Sono Pleaded Guilty

Jomo Sono is believed to have pleaded guilty to fielding an ineligible player in the case that could see them have points deducted ahead of this weekend’s game.

The case surrounds the matter of goalkeeper, Thabo Modiba, who played against Kaizer Chiefs in the 1-0 win earlier this season, however, his former club in Namibia state that he wasn’t properly registered with Ezenkosi and didn’t have international clearance.

Platinum Stars had a point deducted earlier in the season after they played Siyabonga Zulu without proper registration, and the same fate could befall relegation-threatened Cosmos depending on what decision is made.

All the evidence has now been heard, and it is thought that a verdict will be handed down before the final round of Absa Premiership games this weekend.

Sono apparently pleaded guilty in hope that the arbitrator will deliberate a lesser sentence, and that they will not have the points deducted. It is believed that Cosmos may be handed a fine only, should the arbitrator decide not to deduct the points.

The arbitration hearing at SAFA House went on until around 9pm last night, and while judgement has been reserved, a decision is now believed to be imminent.
