Schut: Teko gave Me the Armband

Speaking to Soccer Laduma in an exclusive interview in edition 965, the former Absa Premiership winning-captain, said that Teko Modise had in fact approached him with the armband, with the intention of the Dutchman steering the ship at the Chloorkop-based outfit.

“I was very happy when Teko was the captain, because I thought he did a fantastic job and is a great leader as well.

“He came to me and said he thought it would be better for me to wear the armband so that he could focus more on his game,” the 35-year-old told Soccer Laduma.

The former FC Utrecht man led coach Pitso Mosimane’s side to the PSL title as well as the Nedbank Cup and, returned to Europe to coach Kozakken Boys, following a three-year spell with the club at the end of the 2014/15 campaign.

Schut said he was honoured to replace the former Orlando Pirates man as skipper of The Brazilians and also thanked both coach Mosimane and former teammate, Modise for their ever-present support during his time with Sundowns.

“I was honoured to hear such words from a player like him and it was also an honour for me to captain a team like Sundowns, just a year after joining.

“Teko and Coach Pitso putting so much faith in me was just amazing,” Schut concluded.
