Messi Into Sixth In European All-Time Ranking

FC Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi scored his 301st La Liga goal on Wednesday night, and, as a result, moved into sixth position on the European all-time league goalscoring chart.
With his brace against Sporting Gijon on Wednesday, Messi took his overall league tally to 301 goals – two more than Delio Onnis, who had scored 299 goals.
The Argentine is only nine strikes short of equalling Dixie Dean's 310 goals, and moving into fifth place.
Steve Bloomer, with 317 strikes, sits in fourth spot, while Messi's longstanding rival Cristiano Ronaldo follows in third position with 330 goals (246 for Real Madrid and 84 for Manchester United).
Jimmy Greaves is the current all-time record scorer with 366 goals for Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham in the 1970s. The England legend finished his career one league goal ahead of former Bayern Munich great Gerd Muller.
Messi became the first player to hit the 300 goals mark in La Liga history. He leads the Spanish league ranking by 50 goals, ahead of second-placed Telmo Zarra (251).
Ronaldo, despite only being in his seventh season in Spain, follows in third spot with 246 La Liga goals.
