Messi scored two goals and made two assist in their 4-1 win

Lionel Messi bagged two goals and two assists to inspire FC Barcelona to a 4-1 win over Espanyol in the Copa Del Rey clash at the Camp Nou.

Former Atletico Madrid midfielder, Arda Turan, made his long awaited debut for the Catalan giants, with Ivan Rakitic dropping to the bench.

The Camp Nou was silenced after just nine minutes, as Sergio Asenjo pounced on a poor pass by Dani Alves, before picking out Felipe Caicedo, who calmly slotted past Ter Stegen.

Espanyol's lead only lasted four minutes, as Lionel Messi managed to break the offside and fired home with a first time finish into bottom corner.

Enrique's charges then went ahead on the stroke of halftime courtesy of a sublime curling free-kick from Messi.

Barcelona extended their advantage shortly after the break, as Messi turned provider to pick out Gerard Pique, who slotted home from close range.

Barcelona eventually added a fourth goal in the 88th minute, as Neymar added his name to the score-sheet with a volley from close range, after collecting a pass from Messi.

The second leg is scheduled to take place on 13 January at the Estadi Cornellà-El Prat.
