Ronaldo Into Third In La Liga All-Time Ranking

The Portuguese talisman scored his 235th league goal for Los Blancos during their 4-1 win over Getafe on Saturday.

As a result, he has overtaken Hugo Sanchez, who scored 234 La Liga goals for Atletico Madrid, Real and Rayo Vallecano during his career.

Ronaldo is now only 18 goals short of former record scorer Telmo Zarra, who scored 253 times for Athletic Bilbao between 1940 and 1955.

However, Lionel Messi leads the scoring charts with 289 strikes after surpassing Zarra last season.

While Ronaldo could still overtake Zarra this season, it seems unlikely he will also go past Messi's total – at least as long as both play in the same league.

He would have to score 54 goals just to catch up to the Argentine, who is also younger than he is. But Ronaldo's achievement is underpinned by the short time span he needed to move up the goalscoring ranks in Spain.

While the likes of Raul, Sanchez and Zarra needed more than 13 seasons to enter the record books, the 30-year-old is currently only in his seventh season in Spain.
