The former South Africa Under-23 player was over the moon as his dream move to a big PSL club was on the horizon

Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia has revealed that Deolin Mekoa's proposed move to Mamelodi Sundowns is off.

The 23-year-old midfielder has been one of the Team of Choice's star players in the last two seasons and his exploits attracted interest from big clubs such as Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns.

It is believed that Kadodia informed Mekoa that he would be allowed to join Sundowns after the Brazilians' offer was accepted by the Team of Choice earlier this year.

However, Sundowns have since withdrawn their offer and this was confirmed by Kadodia, who stated that Mekoa was disappointed as he was looking forward to moving to Pretoria giants.

“What Sundowns did was unlawful," Kadodia was quoted on Isolezwe.

"They came to me and said they want a player. I told the player that Sundowns want him and he was excited," he continued.

"Sundowns then came back to me and said they don’t want the player anymore," he stressed.

“This was disappointing because I had already told the player and he was looking forward to it," he added.

"The move to Sundowns is now off,” Kadodia concluded.

  1. Do Sundowns really need this guy? Now that the deal is off, do you think Sundowns made a mistake for not signing him?
