#TBT – Remember When Ace Broke Amakhosi's Hearts?

Default
It's Thursday once again, and, as usual, Supporters Club takes you down memory lane. Today, we look back at the 2011 MTN8 final between the two Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.
The game took place on 10 September 2011 at Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium. Play began at 8:30pm, and like any other game between the two Soweto giants, the arena was packed to the rafters.
The match was a spectacle, with the midfield battle between Pirates' Andile Jali and Oupa Manyisa and Chiefs' Tinashe Nengomasha and Reneilwe Letsholonyane being the highlight. Regulation time ended in a 0-0 stalemate.
It was in the beginning of the second half of extra time that Oupa "Ace" Manyisa took a swipe from a long range to beat an advancing Khune, making the score 1-0 to Ezikamagebhula. Amakhosi then surged forward in search of an equaliser, but their efforts were blocked out by the heroics of Pirates shot-stopper Moeneeb Josephs.
When the final whistle blew, the scoreboard read "Pirates 1-0 Chiefs", and the Buccaneers were crowned the 2011 MTN8 champions.
