Carlo Ancelotti reveals that he sarcastically told the referee he did a ‘good job’ after Bayern Munich’s defeat to Real Madrid on Tuesday evening.
Bayern were beaten 4-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu as Cristiano Ronaldo’s hat-trick fired Madrid into the semi-final.
In the second half, Hungarian referee Viktor Kassai sent off Arturo Vidal despite the Chilean getting the ball in a challenge with Marco Asensio, while two of Ronaldo’s goals were scored from an offside position.
‘In the quarter-finals of the Champions League we have to use referees of a better quality,’ said Ancelotti. ‘Today, the referee has not had a good day, and there are decisions of his that have hurt us a lot – the red card for Vidal, two goals from Cristiano which were offside.
‘I spoke to the referee after the game. I said to him: ‘good job’.’
