Having spent many weeks sitting as the sole leading goalscorer in the Absa Premiership, Tendai Ndoro has now been caught by one of his counterparts.
Ndoro enjoyed a rich vein of form earlier in the season as he provided almost all of Orlando Pirates’ goals in the opening weeks of the campaign, however, he has now hit somewhat of a drought and was dropped to the bench for the Soweto Derby this weekend.
The Zimbabwean’s inability to score in the past eight games has given Lebogang Manyama the opportunity to catch up with him in the Golden Boot race, with both attackers now having scored 11 goals in the 2016/17 season so far.
Gabadinho Mhango also took one step closer to Ndoro and Manyama as he bagged his eighth goal of the campaign during Bidvest Wits’ 3-1 win, going level with Polokwane City man, Rodney Ramagalela.
The only other three players to have scored more than five goals this campaign are Jeremy Brockie, Percy Tau and Chippa United’s Lerato Manzini – a man who has scored all his six goals in the last six games.
With around 10 games left for most teams in 2016/17, the prospect of another campaign without a 20+ goal striker looks to be on the cards.
