Orlando Pirates worst ever PSL defeat is 6-0.
Orlando Pirates’ 6-0 annihilation at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns was made worse by one of the worst incidents of fan violence in recent PSL history.
Sundowns had just scored their sixth goal in the 82nd minute at Loftus Stadium on Saturday afternoon when irate Buccaneers supporters invaded the pitch and clashed with Sundowns fans, resulting in several injuries.
Play was stopped for close to an hour before the last eight minutes were played, and 6-0 it ended.
The result represents the worst ever PSL defeat for Pirates, eclipsing what was a record-equalling 6-1 hiding handed to them by SuperSport United in November last year.
It is also Sundowns’ biggest ever PSL win. The goals were scored by Themba Zwane, Percy Tau (two), Thapelo Morena (two) and Ricardo Nascimento (pen).
Pirates are also likely to receive a hefty fine from the PSL for bringing the game into disrepute and failing to control their fans.
Bucs fans vandalised a SuperSport television cable, interrupting their feed of the match, on top of the violent clashes that saw several people injured.
