Mamelodi Sundowns continue to assert their dominance as the Absa Premiership’s reigning champions beat last season’s runners-up 2-0 on Saturday evening. However, Gavin Hunts men had more possession, took more shots, made more passes and won more balls. However, the primary difference between the two came in the form of chances created and efficiency where it really mattered – in front of goal.
It was undoubtedly Percy Tau that proved the catalyst in the game. Not only did he draw the foul that led to Hlompho Kekana’s opener from a free-kick, but he also made the assist that saw Sibusiso Vilakazi settle the tie in added time. The young star completed 13 of his 19 passes on the day, took one shot, drew five fouls. His combination play with Thapelo Morena and Themba Zwane was especially notable, with the former passing the ball to Tau on seven occasions and the latter receiving it from him five times.
