Mabena is in the last year of the three-year deal he signed with Dikwena when he joined the club from Pirates in 2014.
With the 29-year-old having entered the final months of his current contract with the North West outfit, several clubs have been monitoring him with the prospect of landing him on a free.
Mabena's impressive 2015/16 season, with his contribution of 10 league goals, helped Dikwena to a third-place finish on the Absa Premiership log.
He was named the Player of the Season, Players' Player of the Season, Star of the Season and walked away with the Top Scorer award at Stars' end of the season awards ceremony in May last year.
Siya sources have now indicated that Chiefs have taken note of Mabena's progress at Stars and are looking at the possibility of adding him to their roster next season.
The player’s representative, Francesco Ferreri, confirmed that Mabena is coming to the end of his contract. However, the agent did not indicate what the future holds for the striker, who spent five seasons with the Buccaneers.
"Yes, that is correct, Ndumiso's (Mabena) contract will expire at the end of this season," Ferreri confirmed.
Chiefs have done business with Dikwena in the past, the most recent being the signing Siphelele Mthembu from the club in 2014.
Furthermore, Amakhosi midfielder Enocent Mkhabela is on loan at Dikwena, and could entertain a possible swap move at the end of the current campaign.
SuperSport United, Maritzburg United and Cape Town City are the other PSL clubs that have shown interest in Mabena's services, according to sources in the know.
