Augusto Palacios says mood has improved at Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates caretaker coach Augusto Palacios has opened up to KickOff.com the first time since his side's 6-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns, and subsequent rioting on Saturday.

Pirates are still licking their wounds after suffering their worst-ever defeat this past weekend, which also sparked scenes of violence at Loftus Versfeld as supporters stormed the pitch.

Bucs are set to face Bidvest Wits in their next league game at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday, before travelling to Cape Town City on Saturday, which is set to be the last game for Palacios as coach, with his replacement expected to be named on Monday.

And the former Bafana Bafana coach has since returned to work for the first time since initially leaving the Loftus Versfeld dugout and disappearing down the tunnel eight minutes before the end of Pirates' loss to Sundowns.

"The mood has improved and the players came back to training with a good attitude. The players are aware of the challenge ahead and we need to recover very well for the game [against Bidvest Wits] on Wednesday," Palacios tells KickOff.com.

"We have two games to play before the new coach takes over on Monday. I have expressed my wish to the players to win the two next games and make sure that the new coach takes over with some positive results," he added.

  1. How can you defeat the big guns while you bench the deserving players? How on earth can chop and changing players week in/out can produce good results? We are angry as supporters. You better have Qalinge Phungwayo Norideen on your 18man squad. Also Your central back partnering needs to be Mobara and Gymun or Gymun and Okwouso. Our fullbacks Mobara/Nyauza and Phungwayo/Marc. Give Manyisa and Matlaba accompied by Gabuza a week off
