Lekgwathi: Give Benni the Bucs job!

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates legend and former captain Lucky Lekgwathi believes that the club ought to give retired Bafana Bafana superstar Benni McCarthy the chance to coach Bucs.

McCarthy has been linked with the role in recent times and some reports have suggested that the ex-Pirates striker is being seriously considered for the position.

Since retiring in 2013, the 39-year-old has earned some coaching licenses and spent time working as an assistant coach at Sint-Truiden in the Belgium Pro League under Chris O'Loughlin.

As such, Lekgwathi believes his quality as a player and potential as a coach should be enough to see him take over at Mayfair.

"I know the people will say no he doesn't have the experience to coach, whatever. For me, with his experience, yes. I worked with Benni, he is a leader and again, he is the coach," he told Soccer Laduma.

"I worked with him at Bafana Bafana, where he used to help the coach, even at Pirates, he used to help the coach with the team, not about the line-up, but about analyzing the games. He knows how to analyze the game, so I think for me he can be the right man.

"Give him a chance, I think with his experience, Pirates can do well. Everyone respects Benni, even my former team-mates, all of them respect Benni, even me. I used to respect the guy even though I was the captain."
