Shabba Rescues Chiefs against Stars

Siphiwe Tshabalala netted in stoppage time to help Kaizer Chiefs earn a 2-2 draw with Free State Stars.

Chiefs had the first chance of the game after nine minutes when Siphiwe Tshabalala forced Stars goalkeeper, Daouda Diakite into a fine save from 12-yards out.

Stars took the lead with their first meaningful chance in the 15th minute, as Sthembiso Ngcobo glanced home a fine a header from close range.

The visitors were nearly gifted an equaliser in the 26th minute when Diakite's poor clearance fell to George Lebese, but the winger's strike was deflected out for a corner.

Chiefs squandered a glorious chance to level matters in the 38th minute, as Erick Mathoho managed to head wide of an open goal from six-yards out.

However, Chiefs were awarded a penalty a minute later when Reneilwe Letsholonyane was brought down. Willard Katsande stepped up and made no mistake from 12-yards out to level matters before the break.

Stars restored their lead 10 minutes into the second half, as Mathoho's headed clearance fell to Tshabangu, who fired home a wonderful volley from 20-yards out.

With Chiefs struggling in the final third, Steve Komphela opted for a double change and introduce Camaldine Abraw and George Maluleka for Parker and Letsholonyane in the 67th minute, much to the annoyance of the Chiefs fans.

Abraw could have made the perfect impact seconds after his introduction but the Togolese forward failed to make proper contact with the ball in the six-yard box.

The Togolese striker was presented with another chance after 80 minutes, but he managed to volley over the crossbar from six-yards out. Poor decision-making from the forward.

However, Chiefs managed to secure the equaliser in stoppage time, as the Stars defence failed to clear their lines, which allowed Tshabalala to volley home from close range to earn Chiefs a share of the spoils.
