Rampant Germany Thrash Italy 4-1

Germany were too strong for Italy as they romped to a comprehensive 4-1 victory at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday evening.

The match started on a rather slow start as both sides looked to avoid any early mistakes. Julian Draxler did get a very good opportunity just after the ten minute mark as the German pulled his shot just wide of the target.

The hosts tried to build on that momentum as they continued to push forward in search of the opener. They were finally rewarded in the 24th minute when Toni Kroos slotted the ball into the bottom corner following a corner.

The home side continued to look threatening on attack, and Draxler forced a superb save out of Gianlugi Buffon in the 31st minute, before Lorenzo Insigne fluffed his effort a minute later.

Just when everybody thought the teams were heading to the break with the score unchanged, Mario Gotze rose above the rest to slot a solid header into the bottom corner, handing Germany a 2-0 lead at the half-way stage.

The visitors had a better start to the second stanza, with Simone Zaza and Emanuele Giacherini having opportunities fall their way early on, but it was Germany’s Jonas Hector who rocked up with the match's next goal as he extended the home side's lead to 3-0 after 59 minutes of play.

Buffon succumbed to the constant pressure from Germany in the 75th minute as he conceded a penalty that was converted by Mesut Ozil to make it 4-0.

About eight minutes later, Stephan El Shaarawy produced a stunner of a goal from outside the box right into the bottom corner, 4-1.

The visitors tried to push forward in the dying minutes of the game but the result was already sealed as Germany walked away with victory.
